The first roses of June
A short seasonal note on fragrance, morning service, and the gardeners favorite hour on the south lawn.
Early summer arrives softly at the house: first in the orchard light, then in the borders, then in the rose scent that reaches the breakfast terrace before service begins.
The garden team cuts only what the rooms can carry. Most blooms are left where they belong, changing the view from each window through the day. A single stem on a bedside table is often enough.
By evening the color deepens and the south lawn becomes the best place to walk before dinner. Guests tend to slow down there without being asked; the garden does the asking.
